Portsoy
Portsoy (Gaelic: Port Saoidh) is a burgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, formerly in the county of Banffshire.
It is known for:
- local jewellery made from "Portsoy marble" (which is not marble, but rather serpentine)
- locally milled oatmeal which is sold around the world
- Scottish Traditional Boat Festival which is worth over £4 million to the local economy.[2][3]
- two historical harbours
The community also has a pottery, whose ceramics are noted for their delicate colouring.
Notable residents
The wandering singer Jimmy MacBeath was born in Portsoy and is also buried there.
